Este hecho pionero, fue un
nuevo hito con resonancia e imitadores en otros países (Alemania, USA, Holanda y Japón)
dado que Museos de Esmalte contemporáneo eran prácticamente inexistentes a nivel
mundial.
Así, cuando Prometeo robó a los dioses el fuego sagrado para entregarlo a los hombres,
una chispa debió de caer en Salou, convirtiéndose en vestal cuidadora para que la llama
no se extinga, velando para promover y alimentar el arte del esmalte al fuego sobre
metales.

Salou i en aquesta mateixa Torre Vella, l’any 1985, ara fa 22 anys, es va crear la
primera biennal de l’art de l’esmalt, com una manifestació primera i pionera en
tot l’Estat espanyol. Mai s’havia fet res de semblant a Espanya.
En una tercera convocatòria, l’any 1989, la biennal es converteix en Internacional
ampliant els seus horitzons a universals.
El nom de Salou des d’aleshores ençà ha anat per tots els “correus” i
duanes del món. Centenars, per no dir milers, d’esmalts curosament protegits en
paquets de molt variades procedències han anat fent cap a Salou i de retorn als seus
destinataris.
Després d’uns anys de parèntesi d’aquestes manifestacions esmaltístiques per
causa de la segregació Salou / Vila-Seca, les biennals es reprengueren sota lemes
diferents en una quarta, cinquena, sisena, fins aquesta setena actual, on el tema és el
Nu.
Enguany s’han rebut prop de 300 obres de les quals, després d’una escrupulosa
selecció se n’han triat quasi 200, que són les que s’exhibeixen a
l’exposició “El Món de l’Esmalt” d’enguany, en un conjunt de
més d’un centenar d’esmaltistes de 22 països.
Fruit dels èxits d’aquestes biennals, el 1991 es creà el MECS (Museu de
l’Esmalt Contemporani de Salou) amb seu a la Torre Vella.
Fet aquest també una fita pionera que ha tingut ressò imitador a d’altres països
(Alemanya, USA, Holanda i Japó) atès que Museus d’Esmalt contemporani eren
pràcticament absents arreu del món.
Així quan Prometeu va robar als déus el foc sagrat per donar-lo als homes, una guspira
devia anar a parar a Salou, convertint-se en vestal curadora perquè la flama no
s’extingeixi, vetllant per promoure i alimentar l’art de l’esmalt al foc
sobre metalls.

Salou and in this same Torre Vella, in the year 1985, 22 years ago, it was born the first
Biennial of enamel art, as the first manifestation and pioneer in the whole Spanish State.
It has never been anything similar in Spain.
In a third convocation, in the year 1989, the biennial became International enlarging
their horizons to universal.
The name of Salou from then on has strolled for all the mail and customs offices of the
world. Hundreds, for not saying thousands, of enamels carefully protected in packages of
very varied origins have gone and come of Salou.
After some years of parenthesis of these enamel events due to the segregation Salou /
Vila-Seca, the biennial undertake again with different subjects in a fourth, fifth and
sixth until the current seventh with the topic of the Nude.
In this occasion they have been received near 300 enamel works from which, after a
scrupulous selection it will be presented almost 200 that are those that are chosen for
the exhibition “El Món de l’Esmalt” of this year, from a group of more
than a hundred enamellers of 22 countries.

En Salou y en esta misma Torre Vella, en el año 1985, 22 años
atrás se creó la primera bienal del arte del esmalte, como una manifestación primera y
pionera en todo el Estado español. Nunca se había hecho nada semejante en España.
